Thanks for the tip Sam.
I really like the new book - must incorporate this, and the other strength tests/exercises on pages 100-109, into my routines.

Yep, have a week off! I don't think you need to do a long run every single weekend. Your body will appreciate a break. And you can go up to 18 or whatever the week after. Really glad to hear you're back in the game!

Thanks for the advice Sammy.
When you say have a week off from the long run, do you mean completely rest or do something less?
I'm upto 16 miles as of last week and was going to take tomorrow off.

Was it a handicap? It looks as though some barrows were loaded less than others; I think it suggests a stewards' inquiry but maybe you don't fancy a re-run.

I don't think 2.5 hours is long enough, no. But don't go too crazy and try for a 4 hour run! I'd try to incorporate a couple of 2.5 hours and maybe 1 or 2 of up to 3 hours. It's not just what you do on 'one run' that gets you round but the accummulation of training. You need to be out for 2.15, 2.30 hours quite regularly to get your body to adjust to being a fat burning machine! But take the odd week off from long runs - and only build up to each new distance gradually.

Just what I was looking for, thanks.
The virgin training schedules seemed very biased towards fartlek and shorter faster "runs" rather than "jogs", the longest run is 150 mins. Is that really long enough on your feet for someone not expecting to get round in under 4.30?
When I trained for the half, I felt like there were two parts; getting your body fit enough to run and; getting your body(legs) strong enough to endure the time it takes to finish!!

Hi Samantha,

My wife, Beverley, has booked and paid for the Feb training day at Crystal Palace, I was wondering if you still had space for me?

Kind regards,
Eric

Totally agree with the last comment. Well said Sam. Again, stressing the importance of re-learning the best form to use regardless of what is or isn't on your feet.

If the injury risk is so low, then why do 60-80 per cent of runners get injured in any given year? Again, it all comes back to running technique. You need to run with good form, regardless of whether you are wearing minimal shoes, chunky shoes or no shoes....
