My racing season finished in style on Sunday, as I completed the 5km Reindeer Run on Hampstead Heath sporting cardboard antlers. Among the 600-odd other runners who’d decided to get into the festive spirit were seven members of my weekly women’s running group - three of whom were making their race debut. Despite the mud, the copious hills, the incredulous stares from passers-by, and, of course, the huge amount of wind resistance created by those antlers, all of them crossed the finish line with smiles on their faces, and very proud of them I was, too. As first woman across the line (see, there’s life in the old deer yet…) I received a nice trophy and had my picture taken with an official from the RNLI. It wasn’t until a little later, as I ducked my head to get in the car, that I realised I still had the antlers on. Oops.
